Terms and Conditions
We cannot transfer prize money to winners residing in China, India, Russia, Somalia, Iran, Cuba, Sudan, Syria, North Korea, or any countries we are prohibited from transferring funds to under the U.S. economic and trade sanctions enforced by the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC). Additionally, individuals on U.S. terrorist lists or those subject to said sanctions are not eligible to receive prize money. Individuals living in the aforementioned countries are still allowed to participate in the competition and may receive non-monetary awards for winning submissions (co-authorship and an invitation to present at the workshop). Only authors on awarded papers are winners. All decisions of judges are final. The legality of accepting the prize in his or her country is the responsibility of the winners. All taxes are the responsibility of the winners. International prize winners are subject to a 30% tax withholding in line with US tax regulation, unless there exists a tax treaty stating otherwise. Employees of the sponsor and contest organizers are not eligible to win prizes. Entrants must be over the age of 18.
By entering the contest, entrants agree to these Terms & Conditions. The sponsor and contest organizers reserve the right, at their sole discretion, to request proof of eligibility from entrants and to disqualify any entrant who does not meet the eligibility criteria, fails to provide the required documentation, does not comply with these Terms and Conditions, engages in fraudulent or illegal activity, or otherwise compromises the integrity of the contest. The sponsor and contest organizers shall not be liable for any failure or delay in transferring prize money or other performance under these Terms and Conditions arising out of a cause beyond their control, including, but not limited to, acts of God, natural disasters, pandemics, government actions, or other force majeure events, and entrants agree that the sponsor and contest organizers shall not be liable to entrants for any type of damages that arise out of or are related to the contest and/or the prizes. By submitting an entry, entrant represents and warrants that, consistent with these Terms and Conditions: (a) the entry is entrant’s original work; (b) entrant owns any copyright applicable to the entry; (c) the entry does not violate, in whole or in part, any existing copyright, trademark, patent or any other intellectual property right of any other person, organization or entity; (d) entrant has confirmed and is unaware of any contractual obligations entrant has which may be inconsistent with these Terms and Conditions and the rights entrant is required to have in the entry, including but not limited to any prohibitions, obligations or limitations arising from any current or former employment arrangement entrant may have; (e) entrant is not disclosing the confidential, trade secret or proprietary information of any other person or entity, including any obligation entrant may have in connection arising from any current or former employment, without authorization or a license; and (f) entrant has full power and all legal rights to submit an entry in full compliance with these Terms and Conditions. We reserve the right to increase or decrease the number of prizes, as well as increase or decrease the size of prizes at any time. We reserve the right to distribute these prizes at any time or with our prudent judgment. We also reserve the right to alter these Terms and Conditions at any time. By entering the contest, entrants agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless the sponsor, contest organizers, and their respective officers, directors, employees, agents, and representatives from and against any and all claims, damages, losses, liabilities, costs, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising from or related to their submission or participation in the contest.
By entering the contest and submitting an entry, entrants grant the sponsor and contest organizers a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to use, reproduce, distribute, and display their name, likeness, biographical information, and entry for promotional purposes in any media format, unless prohibited by law. The sponsor and contest organizers will collect and use personal information in accordance with their privacy policy, which is incorporated by reference into these Terms and Conditions.
These Terms and Conditions shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of California, without giving effect to any choice or conflict of law provision or rule.
Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms and Conditions or the contest shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the federal and state courts located in San Francisco County, California, and entrants hereby consent to the personal jurisdiction of such courts.
